Great Britain and Australia Juniors dominate Tiszaujvaros Semi-Finals

By David Peddie | 10 Aug, 2013

The talent and depth of the Great Britain and Australia Triathlon squads was evidenced again in Tiszaujavros as a number of athletes made it through to tomorrow’s ETU Junior European Cup Final.

In this Ashes season, it promises some intriguing battles in tomorrow’s final where no quarter will be given.

Junior Women’s Review

Reigning European Champion Georgia Taylor-Brown won her Heat in convincing style, enjoying a three way battle with Jodie Duff and Jaz Hedgeland (both AUS) before just edging in front as the trio cruised to the finish.

Dora Zelovics (HUN) finished in 14th to qualify automatically and Hannah Hannusch (AUT) time in 15th place was enough for her to qualify for the final.

In the second semi-final, Holly Grice (AUS) was composed to win her heat comfortably. She finished ahead of Kristin Ranwig (GER) and Sophie Malowiecki (AUS).

Emma Sharkey (IRL) and Sophie Coldwell (GBR) join the final party along with local favourites Flora Biscak and Dora Fuchs. Dora Mester (HUN) also qualified with the fastest loser time in 15th place.

Junior Men’s Review

Adrien Briffod (SUI) and Frantisek Linduska (CZE) impressed and showed the spirit of triathlon as they crossed the line arm in arm to win Heat 1 of the Junior Men’s semi finals.

In a pulsating finish only seven seconds separated 3rd and 7th, with Jordan Hull (GBR) unfortunate to miss out after finishing 8th by a second.

In Heat 2, Gordon Benson and Morgan Davies led home a British one-two ahead of German pair Stefan Konrad and Lasse Luhrs. Etramar Alster (ISR) qualified in 7th for Israel and James Teagle’s 8th place finish was fast enough to qualify for the final.

Miles Burton continued British domination with a win in heat 3 ahead of Australia’s Jacob Birtwhsitle by the narrowest of margins. Kieran Lindars was third for Great Britain.

Istvan Kiraly delighted the home crowd by qualifying in 6th place but local favourite David Pap missed out in 8th.

The final heat was another British and Australian clean sweep as Grant Sheldon (GBR) held off the challenge of Joel Tobin-White and Luke Willian in the top three.
