ETU explain Sevilla cancellation

By David Peddie | 24 Oct, 2013

The President of the European Triathlon Union has written an open letter to all National Federations explaining the reasons behind the cancellation of the European Cup in Sevilla.

Mr Bertrandi expressed his disappointment at the LOC’s decision to cancel the event and acted quickly to clarify the ETU’s position.

In the letter, Mr Bertrandi said: “On behalf of the entire ETU Executive Board I would like to give you a short explanation relating to this cancellation.

“The ETU office received 2 weeks prior to the event date of Sevilla a cancellation email from the event organiser and President of ‘B-dream cooperation’, Santiago Belloch. Upon receipt of this email the ETU tried it’s upmost to find a solution to keep the race in Sevilla or to find an alternative location in Spain on the same date or one week later. However, due to various circumstances, this was not possible.”

The ETU have acted to finalise the ETU Points Ranking in co-operation with Enrique Quesada of the ITU and once all National Federation results have been verified the top 10 female and male ranked athletes will receive their prize money from the 25,000€ prize fund.

The ETU have also vowed to do all it can to assist athletes with any non-refundable costs for Sevilla. In agreement with the LOC, all reimbursement requests must be sent to B Dream Triathlon SL, c/ Muelle de Levante no.6, Module 14 local 2, Marian deportiva de Alicante 03001, Alicante, Spain or by emailing Barbara Belloch at Barbara.belloch@bdream.es

Mr Bertrandi offered his sincere apologies saying: “I would like to apologise for the inconvenience of this late cancellation to you as National Federations and to your athletes competing in our event(s).

“You can be sure that ETU will take all measures possible to avoid this situation in our next year’s events.”

The ETU expect to announce the 2014 Race Calendar shortly so stay tuned to the website for further information.
