Edirne, Turkey to host 2013 Balkan Duathlon Championships

By David Peddie | 14 May, 2013

The 2013 Balkan Duathlon Championships return to Turkey this weekend for the third International Balkan Championships.

Exactly one month before the ETU European Triathlon Championships in Alanya, Turkey will offer athletes from some of the smaller National Federations a chance to compete on a level playing field in this Duathlon competition.

The Balkan Championships were established in 2011 as part of the ETU’s commitment to developing Triathlon across the smaller countries in Europe and giving these athletes a chance to race each other and compete in a level playing field.

Ece Bakiri recorded Turkey’s first ever International medal by winning the Elite Women’s Triathlon race is Elazig last year and athletes from Romania, Macedonia Bulgaria and the hosts Turkey will hope to finish on the podium this year.

Elite, Junior and Age Group athletes will compete over the weekend in a sprint distance Duathlon race, 5km run/20km bike/ 2.5km run.
