British Triathlon will become the first Governing Body in the world to offer a national event exclusively for disabled triathletes when the British Disabled Triathlon Championships supported by Wrigleys Airwaves gets underway on 1 June.

The race will take place as part of the Rother Valley Triathlon festival held in Rother Valley Country Park, just outside Rotherham in South Yorkshire. The inclusion of the Disabled Championships is a culmination of years of hard work and recent development projects supported by British Triathlons Premier Sponsor, Corus.

British Triathlon and event organisers, One Step Beyond Promotions, will be catering for all categories of disability, which requires all of the athletes needing to be classified. This is either carried out weeks before the event or during the registration process. Organising a race of this nature also has its own issues to overcome, for instance it is surprising how much space a racing wheel chair needs in transition!

Adam Moffat, Director of One Step Beyond Promotions, said:
The festival organisation is going well. Starting any new event is always difficult, let alone one which has seven individual races across a weekend. That said, as an organisation we are excited to be working alongside the Governing Body on this fantastic project, and we look forward to delivering a fun action packed festival of triathlon.

Under the British Triathlon Disability Classification System there are 48 individual profiles which have been categorised into nine classes, enabling equal and fair competition to take place. The race organisers have already had entries from eight disabled athletes who all signed up in the first month. The aim is to have over 50 athletes competing in the first ever British Disabled Triathlon Championships supported by Wrigley’s Airwaves come June.

“The British Disabled Triathlon Championships will be the first comprehensive national championships for disabled triathletes anywhere in the world. The event is a culmination of almost four years development work, and the championships are a milestone in disabled triathlon history. We have many more targets ahead of us, but we are delighted to have reached this one in a relatively short period of time.”

El Triatln britnico ser el primer Consejo de Administracin (Governing Body) en el mundo en ofrecer una prueba nacional exclusivamente para triatletas discapacitados cuando el Campeonato de Triatln Britnico para Discapacitados apoyado por Wrigleys Airwaves se ponga en marcha el 1 de Junio.

La carrera tendr lugar como parte del festival de Triatln de rother Valley que se albergar en el Parque Natural de Rother Valley, justo a las afueras de Rotherham al Sur de Yorkshire. La inclusin de los Campeonatos para discapacitados es la culminacin de aos de duro trabajo y de recientes proyectos de desarrollo apoyados por el Principal Patrocinador del Triatln Britnico, Corus.

El triatln Britnico y los organizadores de la prueba, One Step Beyond Promotions, cubrirn a todas las categoras de discapacitados, las cuales requieren que todos los atletas estn clasificados. Esto se llevar a cabo semanas antes de la prueba o durante el proceso de registro. La organizacin de una carrera de esta naturaleza tambin tiene problemas que solucionar, por ejemplo es sorprendente cuanto espacio necesita una carrera de silla de ruedas en la transicin.

La organizacin del festival va bien. El comienzo de cualquier acontecimiento nuevo es siempre difcil, sin hablar de uno que tiene siete carreras individuales a lo largo del fin de semana. Bajo el Sistema de Clasificacin de Discapacidad del Triatln Britnico hay 48 perfiles individuales los cuales han sido categorizados en nueve clases, permitiendo que se de una competicin ecunime y justa. Los organizadores de la carrera ya han registrado a ocho atletas con discapacidad los cuales han sido todos inscritos en el primer mes. El objetivo es tener a ms de 50 atletas compitiendo en los primeros Campeonatos de Triatln Britnicos de Discapacitados de Junio apoyados por Wrigley’s Airwaves.

Los Campeonatos de Triatln Britnicos de Discapacitados sern los primeros campeonatos nacionales dedicados para discapacitados de cualquier parte del mundo. La prueba es una culminacin de casi cuatro aos de desarrollo del trabajo y los campeonatos son un hito en la historia del triatln para discapacitados. Tenemos muchos ms objetivos en adelante, pero estamos encantados de haber alcanzado ste en un perodo de tiempo relativamente corto.
