Europe Triathlon

We have provided comprehensive coverage of the 2018 Presidents’ Conference that was held in Moscow but we can now provide you with just a little more.

With a couple of weeks to reflect, we hear now from the key speakers at the Conference.

ETU President, Renato Bertrandi, “ETU continues to build upon the foundations of our federation of families and this year we certainly reached new heights. With the opening speech and public support for triathlon, for the Russian Triathlon Federation, the European Triathlon Union and the International Triathlon Union provided by the Russian Minister of Sport, Pavel Kolobkov, we saw a very clear endorsement for our sport.

The Minister is not just a politician. He is a former Olympic, World, European and Russian fencing champion. The opportunity to discuss a variety of topics with him, in the presence of Peter Ivanov, President of the Russian Triathlon Federation and with Marisol Casado, President of the ITU and IOC Member was for us indeed a golden opportunity to promote the sport, within Russia, within Europe and globally.

Without the hard work and dedication of Galina Shipovalova, General Secretary of the Russian Triathlon Federation and ETU Executive Board member, this could not have been possible and I am confident that, with our Sprint Triathlon Championships moving to Kazan in 2019, there is an exciting and prosperous future awaiting us.”

Для российского спорта триатлон – одно из перспективных направлений. С 2000 года мы имеем своих представителей на Олимпийских играх,  а в 2016 в Рио достигли максимально возможного представительства россиян – 6 спортсменов. Теперь, когда в программу Игр включена смешанная эстафета, мы уделяем триатлону больше внимания. Конференция ETU в Москве – тому подтверждение. Благодарю ETU за высокие стандарты, ФТР за отличную организацию и 130 делегатов и гостей за приезд!

“For Russian sports the sport of triathlon is one of the encouraging directions. Since 2000 we have our representatives at the Olympic Games. In Rio 2016 we have reached the maximum possible representation – 6 athletes. Now, when the mixed relay is included in the program of the Games, we pay more attention to triathlon. The ETU conference in Moscow is proof of this. I thank ETU for its high standards, the Russian Triathlon Federation for its excellent organization and all 130 delegates and guests for coming!”

ITU President and IOC Member, Marisol Casado, “It is always an honour to attend the ETU Presidents’ Conference. As a former President of ETU I have fond memories of working with the National Federations that make up this Confederation. I can see that there are so many great races, so many great athletes and behind that a whole team of organisers, coaches and technical officials that make our sport so successful in Europe. Ant not only in the top elite level, we are proud to see the sport growing continuously in Europe, and some more Federations, athletes, coaches and officials joining our extensive family from countries where triathlon is not so well developed.

What impressed me most was the enthusiasm, drive and determination of all those who attended the conference and I would like to thank Renato Bertrandi and our Russian hosts for making this event a “must be there” moment on the sporting calendar. I also want to thank the President of the Russian Federation, Peter Ivanov, for hosting such an amazing meeting for all of us, and the Russian Ministry of Sport for all their support to our sport in this country.”

Стать организаторами конференции президентов ETU – большая честь для нас. Для ФТР это стало большим шагом вперед, ведь помимо хорошей организации самой конференции нашей задачей было показать гостям современную триатлонную Россию. А триатлон в России изменился кардинально за последние несколько лет.
Еще раз благодарю Исполком за выбор Москвы и очень надеюсь, конференция была полезной и информативной, пробежка вокруг Кремля – запоминающейся, и визит всех участников в Москву запомнится надолго.

We wanted to provide a top-quality conference but also, at the same time, show our guests what modern triathlon is in Russia, because triathlon in Russia has changed a lot over the past few years.
