Paratriathlon in Belgium

By David Peddie | 12 Apr, 2012

This year, the TriGT club, in collaboration with the French Speaking League for Disabled, organises its first Paratriathlon on April 29th 2012.

The Organisers want to give the opportunity to disabled athletes to compete in the same weekend than the Belgian Championship Triathlon Sprint and Triathlon Team.

Secretary General of the Belgian Triathlon & Duathlon Federation Stefaan Depaepe said: “There are no doubts that supporters will be there to support participants and to discover the different aspects of Paratriathlon which continues to be developed in Belgium.

“It is a new sport and a competition like this one, with hundreds of athletes and supporters, is the perfect opportunity to increase public awareness of this growing discipline.”

The introduction of Paratriathlon in the Paralympic Games of 2016 in Rio is certainly an indicator of the growth and development of the sport.

Another Paratriathlon is scheduled to be organized in Liège in August.

Depaepe said: “Belgium would be very proud to have athletes to represent the country for the first Paralympic Triathlon in 2016.”
