Europe Triathlon

In the most stunning natural location we saw last year, the 2015 Bohinj ETU TNatura Cross Triathlon European Cup is taking place. Last weekend the racing focus was on Lake Bled but a few kilometres further from that lake, tucked away in a secret place, is the beautiful lake where this year, in its second edition, the Cross-Tri community will descend for this tough off-road event.

The timing is good, as this event will feed directly to the ITU World Championships in Sardinia, where we had the ETU European Cross Triathlon Championships last year.

Following last year’s event, the local authorities met with the Local Organising Committee and the result was very positive. With the mayor fully supporting them, they decided to go ahead with this year’s event.

Franc Kramar, Mayor of Bohinj Municipality, “TNatura Cross Triathlon can only establish an even greater bond and place Bohinj even more firmly as a location with a strong tradition of sport and recreation. Moreover, it can show that Bohinj can and should organize and host big sporting events for best athletes.”

As you can see, the location has moved a little to better show off the course but the swim will still be a 2-lap 750m swim before the athletes cover a tough 4-lap (6.4k) bike course with 500m of climbing. If you think it will be an easy run …. Well, forget it. 3 laps of 3.3k will make your legs wonder when the aching will stop. A 30-step climb will lead you to the “Hunters’ Path” and its 15 wooden bridges.

The weather is beginning to cool and although it looks to be dry this weekend there, all indications are that the swim will be with wetsuits.
