No Alanya this year ....

By Paul Groves | 11 Aug, 2017

Let’s hope that the news we have just received is not the end of a wonderful era of races. The Turkish Triathlon Federation has announced that it will not support the long-running Alanya event this year and as a result all international races have been cancelled.

There will be no ITU Paratriathlon World Cup, with the ETU European and Junior European Cup for 2017.

Here is the ITU Release:

ETU Alanya European Cup and ITU Alanya Paratriathlon World Cup cancelled

Due to the lack of support from the Turkish National Federation, the ETU Alanya European Cup 2017 has been cancelled for this year. The ITU Paratriathlon World Cup, along with the ETU European and Junior European Cup, have been cancelled as well, as they were all going to be held in the same weekend.

“Despite our best efforts to try to have all the events running this year, the lack of support from the Turkish National Federation makes it impossible at this point, even though the event has been really successful over the years”, said Renato Bertrandi, ETU President.

As the Paratriathlon World Cup was running along the event, ITU was forced to cancel this event as well. “We are sorry for all the athletes who had planned this race on their calendars, we hope that Alanya can come back to the circuit in the next few years”, said ITU Sports Director, Gergely Markus.

Both ETU and ITU have already communicated the cancellation to all athletes and National Federations, so they can change their race and travel plans. Both organizations sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this causes, and hope that the races can come back to the calendar in future years.
