2018 is an important year in Bavaria. Not only will the ETU-Challenge Long Distance Championships take place there but the celebrations of 100 years, 100 Jahre Freistaat Bayern, will take place.

ETU and Challenge Family have been working together for a number of years and, with an eye on the future and also to enable those who like to “go long” to get in the full preparation that really goes with such a commitment, we are delighted to be able to announce that in 2018, the date and location is set.

Herewith the press release:

CHALLENGE REGENSBURG TO HOST MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIP EVENTS.

Held in the UNESCO World Heritage city of Regensburg, Germany the 2017 CHALLENGEREGENSBURG event will host the DTU German Triathlon Long Distance Championship and in 2018 CHALLENGEREGENSBURG will host the 2018 ETU European Triathlon Long Distance Championship.

The full distance CHALLENGEREGENSBURG race comprises a 3.8km swim, 180km cycle and 42.2km run. More than 1,100 athletes from thirty-two nations participated in the inaugural edition of CHALLENGEREGENSBURG on August 14, 2016 with rave reviews received from professional and age group athletes alike. The uniquely beautiful course routes and incredible finish at Domplatz Regensburg are highlights of the event.

The 2017 German Triathlon Long Distance Championship race will take place August 13, 2017.

“We are thrilled to be recognised by both the DTU and ETU as the host event for their respective long distance championship events in 2017 and 2018,” said CHALLENGEREGENSBURG organiser, Tom Tajsich.

“Along with the city of Regensburg and the event organising team we have worked very hard to deliver a World-class event. The awarding of these championships is validation for that work and that Regensburg is simply as an incredible triathlon destination,” said Tajsich.

ETU President Renato Bertrandi said, “I am very pleased to see that once again our athletes have the chance to race over the long distance at a Challenge event. I am happy that long distance racing is back on line and attracting more and more competitors from across Europe. Regensburg has already hosted the test event in August. One of Germany’s oldest cities and a UNESCO World Heritage City! I am delighted that once again, by working closely with Challenge that we can offer our athletes a real test over the full distance.”

CHALLENGEFAMILY continues to work closely with national and international triathlon federations to provide quality participation opportunities and collaborate on the growth and development of the sport of triathlon.

“Challenge Family is committed to being a valuable contributor to the work of the DTU and ETU and we are thrilled to have this opportunity to celebrate our collective work at Challenge Regensburg by delivering athletes an unforgettable race experience in one of the most beautiful triathlon locations you can imagine,” said Zibi Szlufick, CEO of CHALLENGEFAMILY.
