The Armenian Triathlon Federation have launched the first stage of their youth development programme aimed at attracting new members to the sport of triathlon.

The ‘New Athletes Generation’ project is the result of months of hard work from President Hrachya Avetisyan, with the help of an ETU development grant.

Avetisyan said: “This is very exciting programme for our country which has been launched along with our neighbouring countries.

“The aim of the Federation is to start new groups of kids aged between 8-11 and 11-14 and raise awareness of triathlon by introducing them to the three disciplines. Training sessions have already started.

“This is a long term project which we hope will serve our Federation well and enrol more children in triathlon.”

Avetisyan is also focusing on Armenia’s youth triathletes, as they look towards the Youth Olympic Games in Nanjing in August. The Armenian Federation are supporting two athletes who they hope can qualify later this year.
